Congratulations

Congrats to Millie and Izzy for finding new homes this month. Joker too, went to a new home in Greensboro Nc. Millie went to MA and Izzy to Northern VA. Sadly Tugboat is returning in the month of July. His new owners are being transferred to another state and can not find pit bull friendly housing.

The economy has certainly made things harder for pet owners.

The truth about Euthanasia

I wish people would "get it", listening to the excuses is heartbreaking. So many wonderful animals and there is nothing left for them. No-one cares and everyone wants to blame the shelters for their owns shortcomings as human beings. It is so easy to blame the animal shelter for instead of looking at their own life, their own situation. I wish those who lash out at others for not saving their unwanted pet would take the time to understand what actually happens. If they cared..

Please stop buying $900 mutts, they are available at any animal shelter. Designer "hybrids" are mutts that you find in every animal shelter across the country.

No Leads on Lucy

Still nothing on Lucy, we hope that she is not gone for good and we hope that she is not suffering on the end of a chain. Lucy was rescued in 2004 (she's in our happy endings for 2004 as Neenah) by the Humane Society on a cruelty investigation. She was the only dog seized to make it up for adoption. She was 6 months old at the time and very undersized. She was adopted to what we thought and hoped would have been her forever home. She was a sweet sweet people friendly little pup that was eager to please and still tough as nails. He returned her last year as an adult when he decided he no longer wanted to have a dog. It was a sad blow for Lucy who had lived as a house pet to return to the adoption scene.

We hope the best for Lucy but are very worried. Hers is the sad uncertain tale of a pit bull dog.

LUCY was STOLEN

Lucy, a 6 year old spayed female American Pit Bull Terrier was stolen from her home at the Humane Society of Eastern Carolina on 6/4/2009. The thieves came back the following night and attempted to steal another dog but her run had been locked as a precaution.  Lucy is a very sweet female, great with people and children but does not like other dogs or cats.  We are concerned for her outcome and the reason she may have been stolen.  She's a smaller female, red/rednose with hazel eyes. She is around 40 lbs

When she was a puppy, she and several other dogs were rescued from a neglectful breeder.  She was originally adopted from the Humane Society when she was 6 months old and returned again when she was an adult. She has become a long time resident, patiently waiting for that home who won't abandon her.
We would love for Lucy to have a happy ending but we are afraid what is going to become of her now.

Phoenix dies in Baltimore

Little Phoenix who had burns on 98% of her body died this morning. She was doused with gasoline and lit on fire in Baltimore.  A good samaritan doused the flames with her sweatshirt and called the police. She was being cared for by a vet clinic in PA after the incident.  Authorities are still offering a reward for the arrest of those involved.  Animal abuse is usually just the beginning. Someone that could set this dog on fire can easily turn their attention to others.  These people have little empathy for suffering and no regard for the value of life.
