Biography for Izzy

She's 50 lbs and about 2 years old.  She is about knee high, slightly longer than she is tall and well muscled. She doesn't look as heavy as she is.

What a beautiful girl, that's what I say when I look at this dog. She's not flashy or showy, she's just beautiful. She is very athletically balanced and has a nice physique. She's alert and attentive to the world and watches everything with a sweet quizzical expression and warm brown eyes that could just melt your soul. All she wants is to snuggle up as close to you as possible, tail slowly wagging the whole time. Everyone is her friend and it actually can become a problem because she has to say "hi" to just about everyone (and climb in their lap or car if you aren't careful). She appears to be a very mellow gal. She has a moderate exercise requirement and appears very laid back. When I come home in the evenings she runs around a little to get the zoomies out and then we take a nice walk after dinner for .5-1.5 miles. She doesn't like the really hot weather and prefers to keep the walks short when it's muggy.

Like most of these dogs, Izzy has a sad story and yup, you guessed it...it involves a chain and a thick collar and very little love and affection. A shame but she can make up for it now and she loves to cuddle. She will climb into any available lap, really just bulldozes her way right in.

She's very quiet you will almost never hear her bark for any reason. She's perfectly crate trained and working on housebreaking. She's a snap to bathe, just stands there quietly and lets you lather her up and rinse her off. She doesn't mind getting her ears cleaned or her nails trimmed. She rides great in the car.

She's a wonderful dog and will make a wonderful pet. She is not aggressive to other animals, she will not start a fight but I can't guarantee she would back down - she is a pit bull after all. She is very social with friendly dogs when out on leash. She appears not interested in cats other than a wag and a sniff and not terribly interested in squirrels. She will kill and dismember any and all stuffed squeak toys that you provide for her.

She seems very responsive to training and eager to connect with someone. She picked up the leash walking in one afternoon and now walks nicely at a natural heel. She's a pleasure to walk.

a Hurricane Katrina Happy Ending

It's always nice to see a happy ending years later to know that families are doing well.  Jazz was rescued from the floodwaters of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and as many dogs did....she waited for months and months to be claimed by owners that never came forward.  She was housed in Raleigh, thanks to the good people at the Wake County Animal Shelter.  When time and space just weren't available any longer, she was released to our rescue.  We named her "All that Jazz" "Jazz" because she was from New Orleans and a spicy red color.  Clear that she had been used to produce puppies and was not familiar with the inside of a house, she deserved to have the better life than what had previously been provided.  She waited almost a whole year before finding a forever home with Tracy.  It's wonderful to see her again and how well she's doing.

Hello!
I just thought I would send in some photos to ascpbr of, Milly, formerly known as 'All that Jazz' in Raleigh, so you could see one of your past pups! She is very happily living with Mommy in Charlotte NC where we have been settled for the past (almost) 3 yrs! She now has a a a little brother, Emmitt, who was adopted from the Humane Society. They love each other and get along great, and  even though I have 2, Milly is still VERY spoiled! A poor beaten  dog that wa tied outside to a tree all day now happily snoozes in  her own crate with her own bed, in mommy's bed at night, or on the  couch all day. She is so loving and has become a different dog over  the past 3 years. I adopted MIlls when I was about to graduate in  06 and it's been love ever since. Here are some pictures you can  put in your happy galleries if you need some more!

PeTA and M. Vick

Thankfully a little googling today shows that PeTA withdrew their offer for M. Vick as a spokesperson after finding out that he threw family pets into the fighting pit for slaughter.  So that means that just fighting pit bulls was OK?  Or forgivable if he said "I'm sorry" enough times? 

I have no respect for either.

We are a sinking ship

It's funny and not so funny that we spend more on the dogs than we actually receive back in adoption fees.  This is just a plea for donations. With the dogs we have taken in this spring, it has cost us all of the cushion that we have built up over the years.  Sunshine's broken leg, Frank's mystery illnesses/ehrlichia and rocky mountain spotted fever, Millie's ehrlichia, the list goes on for all of the things we've needed to spend money.  Thankfully we have volunteers who help with the costs of keeping the dogs and will actually put in their own money at times.  We are accepting Ukrops Golden Gift Certificates for those in Virginia and we are a registered 501c3 for those looking to make any kind of charitable contributions.

Michael Vick for PeTA?

You have got to be kidding me, PeTA is offering Michael Vick a job as a spokesperson?

This man has not shown an ounce of remorse for what he did. He was only sorry that he got caught and consistently blamed others for "leading him astray".  He does not give one flying flip about the dogs he killed and the horrible things he has done.  This is just media ploy by him and I'm disgusted with PeTA for being such whores.  They are just looking for donations anywhere they can get them.  They also don't care about pit bulls but would like to see them all exterminated.

She's very ADBA conformation and if you read their standard - it should say in small letters "Izzy at ASCPBR". She's not flashy or showy, she's just beautiful. She is very athletically balanced, everything in it's place and working to perfection down to the last inch. She watches everything with a sweet quizzical expression and warm brown eyes that could just melt your soul. All she wants is to snuggle up as close to you as possible and she takes deep breaths like she's making sure she knows what you smell like her tail slowly wagging the whole time. Everyone is her friend and she greets everyone calmly with a wag to say hi. She appears to be a very mellow gal.

She's always awake when I check on her with her hear up, ears cocked and that sweet expression on her face. She is always alert - nothing slips past her gaze. She's a snap to bathe, just stands there quietly and lets you lather her up and rinse her off. She doesn't mind getting her ears cleaned or her nails trimmed. She rides great in the car.

She's a wonderful dog and will make a wonderful pet. She greets everyone the same calmly with a wagging tail. She seems fine with cats under supervision but I would not leave her unsupervised. She seems a little too interested in what they are doing.

As to be expected with a neglected chain dog....she knows NOTHING, not even how to walk on a leash so we are starting with square one to teach the basics and housebreaking. She seems very responsive to training and eager to connect with someone. She picked up the leash walking in one afternoon and now walks nicely at a heel with minimal correction. She's a smart gal, our Izzy.

Our New Dog - Millie

Millie is a super sweet gal. She's as american as apple pie and just as sweet and absolutely starved for affection. She's another shelter transfer that was a neglected chain dog. She was a little skinny but picked up weight in the shelter and is doing much better in foster care. She is crate trained and very good in the crate. She doesn't like to go in but once she's in she will stretch out and chew a bone or just sleep. She's just happy to be clean and on something soft. She's a flashy piebald girl that may have originally been obtained for breeding but she's fixed now and doesn't appear to ever have had puppies.

She doesn't like to get a bath and you will end up just as wet as she will, hopefully she will learn to like them. She doesn't mind getting her nails trimmed or her ears cleaned. She accepts all handling with ease, including bear hugs and pinched skin. She is extremely submissive to everything - cats included. At the slightest hint of aggression from another animal she goes belly up or hits the floor. She will need a home with a mild neutered male dog and someone who won't let her get picked on by other animals.

As to be expected with a neglected chain dog....she knows NOTHING, not even how to walk on a leash so we are starting with square one to teach the basics and housebreaking. She seems very responsive to training, food motivated and eager to connect. Doesn't' seem the sharpest tool in the shed but she's mighty sweet. She is a lap dog. Her personality seems to be the goofy, silly, lightly dense, and super sweet.

She has an old broken leg that healed on it's own and while it doesn't slow her down - nothing slows her down right now, it may later in life. You hardly notice it except that her foot turns out sometimes when she's standing still and you can see the awkward bend go the leg. She may be more prone to arthritis in that leg when she reaches old age.

Looking for a Senior Dog Foster Home

I'm looking for a foster home for a senior pit bull. He's in an all breed sanctuary and would like to have a soft spot to call his own for a brief time. Please email if you know of anyone that would be willing to take on a foster dog that could take a little while to place. It generally takes a little longer to place the oldies but there are the great rewards of making a dog's final days sweet and kind.
